Best eSIM for Dubai and the UAE in 2026

TM By Theo Marsh, Travel-utility reviewer and writer at RoamVerdict.
Research-based roundup · Updated July 12, 2026

Dubai is one market where a rival leads on raw price. Airalo's local Burj Mobile plan is about $11 for 5 GB on 5G and about $20 for 10 GB, roughly half what the marketplaces charge, so we say so plainly even though we do not link to it. Of the plans we route to, Jetpac is the better value (from about $1 to start), while eSimania is competitive only on a small 1 GB plan and otherwise suits a wider Gulf trip. One Dubai-specific perk of any travel eSIM: because it roams on an international network, WhatsApp and FaceTime calling that is blocked on local UAE SIMs generally keeps working. For a week, 3 to 5 GB is plenty on Etisalat or du. Prices verified July 12, 2026; speeds are carrier-dependent and never guaranteed.

Dubai is one of the easiest cities in the world to stay connected in, with fast 5G across the emirate from Etisalat and du. A travel eSIM installs from a QR code before you fly, so you land at DXB already online for maps, ride-hailing and check-in. Below are the plans we route to, an honest dated price check, the WhatsApp calling point that matters in the UAE, and how to size your data.

Our Dubai and UAE picks

Best value of our picks: Jetpac eSIM

For Dubai the marketplaces run pricey on anything past a small plan, so of the options we route to, Jetpac is the better value: a 1 GB entry plan from about $1, a single install that also covers other Gulf stops, and free airport lounge access if your flight is delayed 60 minutes or more, handy on a long-haul stopover day. Being fair, Airalo is cheaper still on raw price for 5 GB and up, with its local Burj Mobile plan from about $11 for 5 GB on 5G, and we say so below. Speeds are carrier-dependent. Checked July 12, 2026.

Pros

  • A 1 GB entry plan from about $1, cheapest of our picks
  • One install can cover Dubai plus other Gulf stops
  • Free airport lounge access on a 60-plus minute delay

Cons

  • Data-only, no calls or SMS
  • Airalo is cheaper on 5 GB and up (about $11 to $12 for 5 GB on 5G)

Best for: A cheap start in Dubai, or the UAE as one stop on a wider Gulf route.

Marketplace pick for a wider Gulf trip: eSimania UAE eSIM

★★★★4.0/5 our editorial score

Data-only eSIM, single-country and Gulf regional options

From about $6.00 / 1 GB

See eSimania UAE plans

eSimania is a marketplace with per-country and Gulf regional plans. For a small 1 GB plan over a week it is competitive at about $6.00, but its mid and large plans run high: about $24.75 for 5 GB and $44.25 for 10 GB, well above Airalo here. It makes most sense if the UAE is one stop on a wider Gulf trip where one bundle covers several countries. For a Dubai-only trip on price, Airalo or Jetpac is cheaper. Prices checked on eSimania and eSIMDB on July 12, 2026; speeds are carrier-dependent.

Pros

  • Competitive on a small 1 GB plan (about $6.00 for 7 days)
  • One marketplace covering the UAE plus a wider Gulf bundle
  • Instant QR activation

Cons

  • Expensive on 5 GB and up (about $24.75/5 GB, $44.25/10 GB)
  • Airalo is roughly half the price on 5 GB and 10 GB here
  • Marketplace does not name the local carrier; confirm coverage

Best for: Travelers pairing the UAE with other Gulf countries on one bundle.

Honest note: for the UAE, Airalo's local Burj Mobile plan is clearly the cheapest on 5 GB and up, so we flag it rather than hide it, and we do not link to it. eSimania is competitive only on a small 1 GB plan and otherwise makes sense for a wider Gulf trip; of the plans we route to, Jetpac is the cheaper start. WhatsApp and FaceTime calling in Dubai

The UAE blocks voice and video calling on apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger and Telegram at the network level. Under UAE telecom rules, only licensed services may carry internet calls, so Etisalat and du filter the rest. WhatsApp text messaging still works normally; it is only the live calling that is blocked on a local UAE SIM. Botim and C Me are UAE-licensed apps that call legally, and Zoom and Microsoft Teams are approved for video meetings.

Here is the part that matters for a travel eSIM: when your phone uses eSIM data, it routes through an international roaming network rather than a local UAE network, so the local calling block generally does not reach it and apps like WhatsApp calling tend to keep working. This depends on the provider and network and is not guaranteed, so treat it as a likely bonus rather than a promise, and keep a licensed app such as Botim as a backup. A traveler whose call simply fails to connect faces no issue; the call just does not go through.

For a week in Dubai, 3 to 5 GB suits most travelers; go bigger if you stream or make a lot of video calls.

Coverage: which network for your trip

Etisalat, now branded e and, is the UAE's original operator and has the widest coverage and fast 5G across the emirates, so it is the safe default, while du is a strong second network in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the main cities. Coverage is excellent across the urban UAE, in the malls, along Sheikh Zayed Road and around the main attractions, and it holds up well on the popular desert-safari routes near the cities. Because the marketplace does not always name the carrier, it is worth confirming which network a plan uses if you are heading deep into the desert or out to the quieter emirates.

Frequently asked questions

Do WhatsApp and FaceTime calls work in Dubai on an eSIM?

WhatsApp and FaceTime voice and video calls are blocked on local UAE networks, so a physical UAE SIM cannot place them. A travel eSIM routes your data through an international roaming network rather than a local UAE network, so those calls generally keep working, though this is provider-dependent and not guaranteed. WhatsApp text messaging works either way. Botim and C Me are UAE-licensed calling apps.

How much eSIM data do I need for Dubai?

For a typical 5 to 7-day trip, 3 to 5 GB covers maps, ride-hailing, translation, messaging and photos across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Many hotels and malls have wifi, so light users can manage on 1 to 2 GB, while anyone streaming, doing video calls or tethering should choose a larger plan.

Which eSIM is cheapest for Dubai?

On raw price for 5 GB and up, Airalo tends to be the cheapest for the UAE, with its local Burj Mobile plan from about $11 for 5 GB on 5G. Of the options we route to, Jetpac is the cheaper start from about $1, while eSimania is competitive on a small 1 GB plan and otherwise suits a wider Gulf trip. Compare before buying.

Which UAE network is best for tourists?

Etisalat, now branded e and, is the older operator with the widest coverage and fast 5G across the UAE, so it is the safe default. du is the second network and also strong in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the main cities. Coverage is excellent across the urban UAE and holds up well on desert-safari routes near the cities.
